Pre-Stratification as a Sampling Strategy
- When forced to sample a complex, heterogeneous phenomenon with only a limited number of samples, statisticians recommend PRE-STRATIFICATION
- Pre-determine the different "kinds" of things that need to be sampled
- Divide the complex phenomenon into more homogeneous "strata" - then array samples within each stratum
- Stratified sampling ensures that the samples are representative of the entire range of the phenomenon
